World of Warcraft Creates Beautiful Robin Williams Tribute

In the aftermath of the tragic death of famed comedian Robin Williams many members of the gaming community have banded together to show support and solidarity for the Williams family in addition to demonstrating their own appreciation and love for a man who demonstrated a love and dedication to the past time that few other celebrities have.

Mr Williams love of gaming was most obvious in his efforts to champion the famed Legend of Zelda series, appearing in adverts for Nintendo and even naming his daughter after the titular princess. This has led to online petition being circulated to have Williams appear in a Zelda game as tribute to the man.

Happily these petitions have caught the attention of Nintendo, who released the following statement: “Robin Williams was loved at Nintendo. Our hearts go out to his entire family, and especially to Zelda Williams who we’ve worked with multiple times. We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community, and hear the request of fans to honor him in a future game. We will not be discussing what might be possible for future games during this difficult time, but we will hold our memories of Robin close.”

The fact that Nintendo have made such a statement indicates that, should the Williams family support the endeavour, it is likely that Robin will be appearing in an upcoming Zelda game.

The Zelda series isn’t the only one that may pay tribute to the comedian though, as a similar petition was made to ask the makers of the massive social game World of Warcraft to create a tribute of their own. While no official word has come from Blizzard as of the time of writing, a number of gamers are reporting that they have seen a number of new NPCs (Non-Player Characters) wandering the rich world in a recent beta test.

The three NPCs were a Djinn and both male and female humans, believed to be tributes to Williams’ roles as the genie in Aladdin, the alien in Mork and Mindy as his superb turn as Mrs Doubtfire. After some speculation it appears the rumours are true as the Djinn has been found in the official game, with players able to reach him by rubbing the ever-burning lamp. The Djinn is even named Robin in tribute to comedian.

William’s was believed to be a World of Warcraft player and the tribute stands as a fitting testimony for everything the man brought to the world of gaming. Furthermore it also shows a compassionate side to gaming and demonstrates the social bonds that it can foster.

Video of the tribute has been made available and can be viewed in the player below:
